Inherent in the nature of Man is the desire to affect the world in a way that extends beyond the actor- that extends outward to reach a greater circle of humanity than the actor himself resides in, or extending forward in time to a point beyond the death of the actor.
This drive results in the strong urge in individuals to create or destroy.
